The World’s 8 Biggest Casinos

admin | February 8, 2010

Have you ever walked into a casino and felt dwarfed by the sheer size of it? From multi-room slot and electronic bingo machines to the grand poker halls and dining areas, the average casino outdoes almost any other major building in terms of sheer size and never-ending scale.

Of course, not all casinos are built equally. That ultra-large gambling and bingo hall in your hometown might seem huge, but next to the giants of Las Vegas, Macau, and Monaco it’s unlikely to even be considered ‘respectable’.

We’ve tracked down eight of the world’s biggest casinos and ranked them for your pleasure, and future travels. From Asia to America, and even across Europe and Africa, these ultra-giant casinos make your town’s flashiest gaming hall look more like the average outlet store. If amazement and classy gambling are high priorities on your bucket list, be sure to add these eight casinos.

8.    Tusk Rio Casino, South Africa

When most travelers hear about South Africa, their first impressions are of awesome coastal cities, stunning wildlife and sea life, and of course, the social tension that kept the country in the news across the last three decades. As a gaming destination South Africa is slightly underrepresented, with the all-star safaris and shark diving tours stealing most of the spotlight.

However, one of South Africa’s biggest tourism assets is located in the country’s North West Province. The small city of Klerksdorp is home to the Tusk Rio Casino and Resort – a huge casino complex featuring over 250 electronic bingo and poker machines, 12 poker and blackjack tables, and more bars and restaurants than your average five-star hotel.

7. MGM Grand, Las Vegas

While Vegas isn’t home to the world’s largest casino complexes, it’s certainly home to some of the world’s most well-known gambling dens and bingo halls. The State of Nevada has made its living from the legalization of sin, and gambling – amongst other ‘immoral’ services – has made Las Vegas the destination of choice for crazed parties, weekend getaways, and of course, gaming holidays.

The MGM Grand is a 30-floor hotel and casino complex. One of the biggest in Vegas, it’s home to more than two thousand gaming machines and video poker computers. Sick and tired of trolling for online bingo on those free bingo sites? Check into the MGM Grand’s massive electronic bingo section and enjoy relatively risk-free gaming all night.

6. Resorts, Atlantic City

Atlantic City hasn’t been a major gaming center as long as Las Vegas. The New Jersey state government only legalized gambling in the late 1970s, leading to a truly massive building boom along the state’s eastern shore. Resorts is one of those ‘gaming boom’ buildings – a truly massive resort and casino, this major gaming center is the biggest on the United States’ eastern seaboard.

Resorts houses over 2,500 electronic gaming machines and video poker systems, making it one of the world’s largest casinos in sheer machine count. Poker, blackjack, and craps tables are slightly less popular at this casino, although it still houses over 100 different table game settings and poker gaming tables.

5.    Wynn Casino and Hotel, Macau

While Las Vegas might be the Western world’s center of gambling, it’s Macau that holds the global ‘gaming giant’ title. This Chinese special territory is home to some of the world’s biggest casinos, including the mega-large Wynn Casino and Hotel complex.

With over six hundred rooms, the Wynn is one of the world’s largest hotels without even factoring in it’s giant casino complex. The building features over 1,200 electronic bingo and gaming machines – a rarity in baccarat mad Macau – and almost four hundred gaming tables. While far from Macau’s biggest, the Wynn is definitely large enough to impress international visitors and Macau’s many gaming-focused tourists.

4.    The Venetian Resort, Hotel, and Casino , Las Vegas

The Venetian is far from the world’s largest casino, although it is one of the world’s largest combined casino and hotel complexes. With over four thousand rooms, it’s hard not to argue that The Venetian is one of Las Vegas’s all-star complexes – it’s the light that people notice as soon as they hit the strip, and the charming Italian-style destination that keeps drawing people in.

The Venetian is considered one of Vegas’s best table gaming destinations, and it’s certainly got the figures to back up its reputation. Over three hundred gaming tables are available at The Venetian, and separate ‘high-roller’ areas ensure that serious players are left without distraction or annoyance.

3.    Monte Carlo Casino, Monte Carlo

The tiny country of Monaco is known for two things: gambling and tax evasion. The country has appeared in numerous 007 films, and itself has become an international metaphor for class, wealth, and of course, serious gambling.

The city of Monte Carlo is considered Monaco’s gaming capital. Swanky casino complexes line the streets, while ultra-luxury hotels house high-rollers and international entrepreneurs. The Monte Carlo Casino may not be the biggest in the world, but it makes up for its lack of size in sheer luxury treatment and incredible design.

2.    Foxwoods Casino and Resort, Connecticut

This mega-large casino complex isn’t located in one of America’s great gambling centers. Far away from Las Vegas (although quite close to Atlantic City), the Foxwoods Casino complex houses six different casino buildings, each with a separate gaming agenda and theme.

Like poker? Don’t worry – Foxwoods houses hundreds of different poker-only playing tables. Blackjack, roulette, craps and plenty of other casino games are also represented, along with a handful of video poker and electronic bingo machines. Don’t spend another night at home with a bottle of water and an online bingo site in your browser – pop down to Foxwoods and enjoy a night of classy gaming.

1.    The Venetian Resort and Casino, Macau

While Vegas’s Venetian claims to be one of the biggest around, it’s no match for its all-star Eastern cousin. The Venetian Resort and Casino in Macau, China is home to over three thousand gaming machines and electronic games, eight hundred poker, blackjack, and baccarat tables, and more restaurants, bars, and cafes than your average shopping mall.

Interested in staying overnight? While The Venetian Macau certainly isn’t cheap, there’s no shortage of rooms at the combined casino and hotel complex. With over three thousand hotel rooms and hundreds of luxurious suites, The Venetian is one of Macau’s most impressive casinos, and the world’s largest gaming complex.

The components of the Behind The Ear hearing aids are housed within a small case that can easily be fitted behind the ear.
